Joel Brockman moved to Ripon in sixth grade, became Ripon’s rec director around 1990 and joined the Common Council representing District 2 in 2004.

He’s served Ripon for a long, long time. But no longer.

“Last night was my last council meeting,” Brockman said Tuesday morning.

Now, Riponites within his district will have the chance to run for that post.

"I have to resign my position by the end of November so that my position can be put on the ballot in the next election,” Brockman said, “because nomination papers go out the first of December for anybody interested — and I would encourage people to step forward and take interest in this spot.”

Choosing to step down wasn’t easy, Brockman admits.
