Members of the Ripon High School girls’ cross country team took it upon themselves to organize a trip to the Green Lake Area Animal Shelter, where the plan was to run with some of the dogs.

While Mother Nature washed away that idea with a constant rainfall, the girls still provided the dogs — and a pig — some exercise as they threw balls for them and used some other toys.

Shelter manager Janine Rubeck invited the girls back if they wanted to try to run with the dogs again. It may be a little harder for them to accomplish as practice got underway Monday.
