Technology has changed the way customers shop for jewelry.

   Recognizing that reality, Diedrich Jewelers is changing, too.

   The longtime, downtown Ripon jewelry store is ditching its dated look with a major renovation that will have it displaced until mid-October.

   The updates will enable the store to better showcase its merchandise as well as utilize new technology for customers who want an especially personal piece of jewelry.

   “[Diedrich Jewelers] will be exactly like it has been and even better,” said Bob Mathia, who bought the 1923-era business in 1978.

   For the moment, though, Diedrich Jewelers looks very different.

   As 212 Watson St. is renovated, Diedrich Jewelers has a new home at 125 Watson, better known as the former National Forensic League building.

   It’s just a stone’s thrown north of a business with great expertise but a look that no longer matched.
