Knuth Brewing Company’s long-awaited street cafe has been approved.

During a special meeting last week Wednesday, the Plan Commission unanimously agreed to allow the local brewery and restaurant to build a walkway across two parking spaces abutting two of the three storefronts Knuth Brewing Company occupies on the 200 block of Watson Street.

As configured, a narrow band of tables will line the sidewalk in front of Knuth’s beer hall at 225 Watson St.

Then, across a 20-foot stretch in front of the business proper at 221-223 Watson St., a wider swath of tables will cover the entire existing sidewalk, with a barrier around it to separate the seating area from the sidewalk.

To ensure pedestrians can still travel along the east side of the street, Knuth Brewing Company will install in the coming weeks a 30-foot-long, wooden walkway with railings.

The walkway will extend five feet into the parking lane, leaving three feet between it and Watson Street motorists.
