Love was in the air for Marianne Reininger’s kindergarten class last week Thursday. It was Valentine’s Day, which meant the annual Love Party.

For Reininger, it would be her 19th party, but for the kids, it was a one-of-a-kind experience as they rushed to hug their guests — parents, grandparents or friends of the family — who were invited to the party.

After guests arrived, bringing art supplies and Valentine’s Day treats, the students and their guests split off into their separate areas, where the students read poems and books to the adults. In some instances, the youngsters sat in their parents’ laps as they read, making themselves at home.

Following the readings, the student/guest pairings had the opportunity to do some activities, such as a room word search where they would look around the room for certain hidden words on walls or cabinets.

Other activities included making a sock-puppy — a classic project for Reininger’s Love Party with some puppies even traveling off to college with past students — creating cards or coming up with one’s own candy heart phrases.
