“Is it in the City of Green Lake’s best interest to hire another part-time officer?”

This concern was addressed at the Green Lake City Council meeting Monday night when the council considered whether to approve the contract for the school resource officer that will be shared among the schools and police departments of Green Lake and Princeton.

Council members approved the agreement, which explained the officer will be hired by the Princeton Police Department and then utilized by the other three entities, and should there be a dispute among the entities, the Princeton police chief will have the final say.

Though the officer agreement was the agenda item on the table, the discussion Monday night centered less on the document and more on whether the city needs to hire another part-time officer.
According to Mayor Jon McConnell, the city’s portion of cost for the officer is $10,824.90, which includes insurance, retirement, Social Security and wages.
