Diving face-first into a pie tin full of Cool Whip, students raced last week Friday to find an object, such as a piece of fruit, in the whipped cream.

The students weren’t hungry for sustenance, but for victory as they competed in several activities during Green Lake School’s Winterfest assembly, which honored the school’s winter sports: basketball, swimming and wrestling.

Other activities included a game resembling “Hungry Hungry Hippos,” during which the athletes were split up by their sports. One member of each team would grab the ankles of a teammate lying on a floor scooter. The two would race to the middle of gymnasium to grab as many dodge balls as they could while also fighting off other teams.

The boys’ and girls’ basketball teams also competed against each other as they inched their way across the gym on their behinds, and teachers faced off against each other in a game of tic-tac-toe.

Representing the Winterfest court were freshmen Josh Vrechek and Stacia Viars; sophomores Addison Poock and Joel Bowman; and seniors Ashlyn Bowman and Nolan Cook. Juniors were not represented.

King and Queen are Cole Vrechek and Sidney Galatowitsch.
