With the new year, the Green Lake School will welcome its new, first-ever school resource officer.

According to Green Lake Police Chief Mike Ratter, the candidate chosen for the position is Keith Kiupelis, who already has 20 years of experience as a law enforcement officer.

Before Kiupelis could be officially hired, the Green Lake School Board needed to approve the contract between the Green Lake school and police department, and the Princeton school and police department.

Since the other three entities already approved the document, Green Lake School Board’s decision was the last one needed.

The contract and hiring of Kiupelis was approved last week Wednesday night in a 4-1 vote during the School Board meeting. Board members Ron Triemstra, Loni Meiborg, Andy Gryske and Sue Sorenson voted in favor while Meade Grim was opposed. Sydney Rouse and Sarah Allen were absent that night.
