One of Ripon’s oldest places of worship will be decommissioned this weekend.

The former St. Wenceslaus Catholic church, now known as one of two sites for St. Catherine of Siena Church, will be decommissioned at the end of a final mass held there Sunday, Nov. 4 at 10 a.m.

“It’s a celebration of what went on at the site for over 100 years,” Father Bob Fictum said.

This is the final step toward enabling the local parish to sell the property, though no buyer has been identified yet.

“There’s nobody that’s offering [to buy the property] right now. It’s still for sale,” Fictum said.

Instead, weather is the key factor in the timing of the church.

“We’re doing it before the weather gets inclement. It’s hard to do a procession in the winter months,” Fictum said.
