Parents seeking somewhere for their kids to get a good soaking won’t have to wait much longer.
Ripon’s splash pad is expected to be complete by the traditional opening of summer: Memorial Day weekend.
Construction at Riggs County Park off Douglas Street should begin by mid-April, followed by an aggressive seven-week building schedule.
“We’ve asked that substantial completion will be achieved by the Friday before Memorial Day weekend,” county parks director Sam Tobias said of when the splash pad will be usable, noting some minor work such as landscaping may remain after that point. “So, by mid-June, it should be totally finished.”
The splash pad represents Ripon’s first and only outdoor water play area.
Concept and fund-raising for the pad came from Ripon Noon Kiwanis, which began working toward the play area about three years ago.
