What could capture and keep children’s attention better than sweet treats and live animals?

This year, Cookie Daze featured both.

Kids could grab piles of cookies last week Saturday morning at Barlow Park during cookie drops while parents get snapshots from the fringes.

That was about the only thing that could tear children away from an extremely popular petting zoo, making its first-ever appearance at Cookie Daze.

Right, Amima Elmtouni, 10, whose mother is a Ripon native, gently pets a bunny at the event. Other animals, ranging from the mundane (goats) to the exotic (zebras) also were on hand to greet the children.
