Lower costs.

   Fewer officer hours lost.

   Greater accountability.

   These were the points lauded by the Ripon Police Department as it urged the city of Ripon to start using Lakeside Municipal Court.

   But are those potential benefits being realized?

   Several months into the switch to Lakeside from the circuit court system, Ripon Police Capt. Troy Damsteegt argues they have been.

   “I’m very pleased with it,” he said. “Everything’s gone smoothly, I think. I think we’re actually seeing less people having an issue with their citations.”

   Only affected by the switch are municipal citations — traffic tickets, truancy violations and the like.

   Criminal charges continue to go through Fond du Lac County Circuit Court.
