Maybe Ripon residents haven’t noticed, but over the past few weeks, Ripon’s fire hydrants have been getting brighter.

   Downtown railings? Shinier.

   Park pavilions? Cleaner.

   And the young men doing the work — happier.

   One thing hasn’t changed during that time: the Ripon department of public works’ bottom line.

   This summer, more is getting done around town without the city of Ripon needing to spend even an extra dime toward labor.

   It’s all part of a new collaboration between public works and Diverse Options.
