As Mel Martin cruised into the finish line on a fine September day in New York, 26.2 miles lay behind him.

   That’s not news.

True, few people ever consider going for the equivalent of a run from Green Lake to Oshkosh, let alone doing it.

But that’s not an issue for Martin.

“You make it in your mind that, ‘I know I can do it any day of the week,’” he said. “It might hurt, but I know I can do it.”

In fact, to date, he’s run 235 marathons. Yet that’s still not what’s truly surprising about Martin’s story.

How often he’s run marathons is not what’s remarkable. It’s where he’s run those races.

After pursuing the goal for about 15 years, Martin has completed his goal of running a marathon in every state.

He’s even got an award to prove it from the 50 States Marathon Club.
