The Ripon Area School District (RASD) may run a district-wide Social Emotional Learning (SEL) pilot program this next school year, 2019-2020.

   However, it all depends on how Ripon Area School Board members vote at their next meeting.

   Curriculum Director Chrissy Damm explained to the board members at a work session meeting Monday night that the SEL team found an SEL program, “Character Strong,” which fits what the team was looking for.

   After meeting throughout the year, trying to develop a plan to meet the state’s SEL competencies district wide, the team invited several companies to present their SEL materials and programs.

   At first the team planned to utilize several programs and spread them throughout the school, but “it was really important to our leadership team to try to find something again, that would be consistent from our earliest learners all the way through high school,” Damm said.

   Character Strong is a 4-year-old preschool to grade 12 SEL program that uses a comprehensive approach.
