Ripon appears to have survived the worst of this year’s winter weather relatively unscathed.

   Despite temperatures that plummeted to as low as -29 degrees last week Thursday morning (-55 with windchill), few problems crept up.

   Power outages across the area over the past week were among the most serious problems encountered.

   Thousands were without power for more than an hour last week Thursday morning at the nadir of the cold spell.

   Reported just before 7 a.m., crews from Alliant Energy responded quickly and had power restored by just after 8.

   “[The power outage] was our only large event,” Ripon Police Chief Bill Wallner said of Ripon weathering the period well.
