Ripon was spared the worst last week Wednesday evening when a severe storm slammed the area at about 8:30 p.m.

While Berlin, just miles northwest of the city, suffered tree and property damage across its community, Ripon encountered only a fraction of those problems — though more than an inch and a half of rain fell and high winds buffeted the community.

“Ripon fared well compared to our neighboring community of Berlin,” Ripon Police Chief Bill Wallner said.

Ripon Area Fire Chief Tim Saul agreed.

“We had minor storm damage compared to what other people had,” he said. “We ran a few storm-related calls, but nothing serious.”

The biggest problem encountered was such tree damage in several places around Ripon.
