“If you don’t have to leave your residence for any reason, I’d recommend staying home.”

   That’s the frank advice offered by Ripon Police Chief Bill Wallner Monday as a snowstorm battered Ripon and beyond.

   And that snowstorm represented the good weather for the week.

   Following about 14 inches of snow, potentially historic low temperatures and frigid wind chills slipped into Wisconsin with temperatures dropping to as low as -26 degrees this morning, and wind chills down to -50.

   The winds also led to reports of significant drifting on country roads outside city limits.

   The snow-cold-wind proved a ruthless series of punches for Riponites with serious ramifications.
