It was starting to feel a lot like Christmas — especially in downtown Ripon — over this past weekend.

With wind chills near zero and snow on the ground, it certainly felt like it was time to curl up and watch some chestnuts over an open fire.

But it didn’t slow down many families who still forged their way downtown for the Christmas kickoff: Christmas in the Village

Plenty packed the street in front of Mugs Coffeehouse — as well as the shop itself — as Santa Claus made his first visit of the year (with nary a Tuba in sight) last week Friday night.

More frozen fun awaited visitors the next day. A Christmas in the Village first included the Holiday Express train that rolled around the parking lot at Horicon Bank.

Meanwhile, a longtime favorite — a reindeer display — also returned as Santa’s helpers snacked next to Farrell’s Fine Furnishings.
