After several years since the last one, Barlow Park Elementary School’s morning and afternoon preschool classes resumed hosting their VIP (very important person) Tea Party for special guests Thursday, May 9.

The kids invited mothers and grandmothers since it was close to Mother’s Day, but if they were unable to attend, any “very important person” in the child’s life was encouraged to come.

According to preschool teacher Kelly Davies, preparing for the tea party required the students to utilize many skills. They worked on handwriting as they made place card settings for themselves and their special guests, and practiced their math as they had to name colors and count shapes when they created place mats, and set up, the tables.

Students and their teachers read several stories about tea party etiquette and shared their favorite one, “Tea Party Rules” by Ame Dyckerman, with their guests.

The party ended with a performance by the children as they sang “I’m a Little Teapot,” “You are My Sunshine,” and “Hugs and Kisses for Mommy.”
