When the school year ends, Ripon High School seniors won’t be the only ones bidding the district adieu.

Five Ripon Area School District teachers and staff members will be retiring: Ripon Middle School sixth-grade teacher Jeanne Hall, 21 years; Ripon Middle School band teacher Bill Nelson, 32 years; first-grade teacher Mary Preston, 30 years; kindergarten teacher Barb Splittgaber, 36 years; and middle school/high school library aide Connie Wuske, 21 years.

Each was honored Monday evening by the School Board for their service to students and the district.

School Board President Gary Rodman pointed out this equals 140 years of serving local youth. “Congratulations on your retirement, and best wishes for the future. I only wish we could be meeting you and shaking your hands in person.”

Following the meeting, Superintendent Mary Whitrock also offered her thanks to the retiring staff.

“This is such a special time for all of us to honor the combined years of service of our retirees. These individuals have helped to build our district’s programs and create the culture of innovation, excellence and care the Ripon Area School District is known for across the area,” she said. “I am so grateful for their service and I hope they know they will be forever missed.”
