What could be better for the Ripon Area School District than hosting one international summer camp?

   Perhaps offering two international camps.

During Tuesday’s Curriculum & Instruction Planning Committee meeting, Curriculum Director Chrissy Damm explained the school district decided to expand its international program.

The plan is to host another camp in the fall, from Sept. 29 to Oct. 9, for Chinese middle school students.

“We anticipate approximately 20 students from China, middle school students, who will be coming to Ripon, and ... they will be shadowing within the classrooms for a portion of the day,” Damm said. “We are going to hopefully be offering some cultural immersion type experiences for them, kind of like French Adventure does but more at the middle school level.”

Similar to the international high school summer camp, the district is planning a host-family stay for the Chinese students during the weekend of Oct. 4 through Oct. 6.

“We would be looking for families, hopefully middle school families, who would be willing to take students and pair the students up with our Chinese families,” Damm said, noting international students will be staying in a hotel under the supervision of Chinese teachers and delegates for the remainder of their stay.
