The hearts of Ripon Middle School students and faculty, as well as members of the Ripon police and fire departments were racing Friday, Feb. 15 during a fund-raiser for the American Heart Association.

Students were able to pay $1 to play in a fast-paced game of lightning against school staff, police officers and firefighters.

The winners of each game, which included contests featuring just staff and just emergency response personnel, qualified to play in a championship round, which was won by eighth-grader Riley Brooks.

Brooks was playing for Ella Weiske and put quite the smile on her face after withstanding Ripon Police Department Investigator Tim Grenier and a slew of other classmates, faculty and emergency response personnel.

The event was put on by the Ripon Middle School Student Council as part of American Heart Month, which takes place in February.
