It seemed almost pre-ordained that Ripon Boy Scouts Ben Retzlaff and Micah Schoff should receive their Eagle Scout awards on the same day.

   Each share their father’s name.

Ben’s middle name is “Chris,” while Micah’s is “David.”

And probably no one was more proud of the boys receiving scouting’s highest honor last week Sunday at Pilgrim Center than Chris Retzlaff and Dave Schoff.

Unless it was the boys’ mothers, Ruth and Renee. Or their grandparents, or friends, or the leaders who helped motivate, guide and encourage the boys as they worked to complete 21 merit badges, serve in leadership positions and complete major service projects.

Ben built a fire ring, eight wooden benches and a giant Connect Four game for Pilgrim Center, while Micah installed a bike-repair station along the Mascoutin Trail.

Among the many on hand to recognize the accomplishments were Rep. Glenn Grothman, R-Glenbeulah; and state Rep. Joan Ballweg, R-Markesan.
