Last year, Ripon High School/Lumen band and choir students were given a list of 24 cities, and of the 24, they chose to go to New York City for their trip this year. They took the trip a week ago, spending more than a New York minute in the iconic city.

After departing Thursday, March 14, the group arrived in New York City Friday morning and visted Central Park. During that day, the group also toured the Rockefeller Center and took a backstage peek at Radio City Music Hall.

On Saturday, students took a trip to U.S.S. Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, where the high school band performed. The high school choir also gave a performance at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. Later that day, Ripon’s music students explored Times Square and then walked to the New Amsterdam Theatre to see the show “Aladdin.”

Sunday included a Broadway Instrumental Clinic for the band students, a Movement and Music Workshop for the choir students, a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and viewing the performance “STOMP.”

Monday followed a similar schedule with the group sight-seeing at popular destinations such as Liberty Island, Ellis Island, Battery Park, Chinatown, Little Italy and Top of the Rock. After a whirlwind musical adventure, the students left the Big Apple Tuesday and journeyed home to the land of cheese and Packers.
