School is in session as parents and children flocked to Ripon schools Tuesday morning for the first day of classes.

That includes the first day of school, ever, for Ripon’s new virtual charter school, Odyssey Academy of Virtual Learning.

But what does the beginning of the school year look like for the virtual academy?

Odyssey Academy Principal Rebecca Miller noted the school welcomed about 102 students.

“We are obtaining new students each week,” she said. “It’s exciting to be gaining students this close to the school year, but nonetheless, we need to ensure that each student and family has what they need to begin a successful year at Odyssey Academy. With the wonderful staff that we have at

Odyssey, I have no doubt that we will have each student ready on day one.”

Miller explained the staff was busy this summer preparing for Odyssey’s first operating year.
