In the end, the Ripon Area School Board was faced with a decision: stick with the status quo, or head in a new direction?
Ultimately, the eight members of the board selected the latter.
Nicole Kutz-Menard, who has never served on the School Board, will fill out the remaining one year on the term vacated by Dan Zimmerman.
She was chosen tonight (Wednesday) in a 5-3 vote after the board pared the field of four to two finalists, beating out a former School Board member.
Interviewing for the position Wednesday evening were Kutz-Menard, former School Board member Barb Schultz, Gary Wetzel and former teacher Kate Williams.
The first round of voting finished with Schultz and Kutz-Menard tied with three votes, and Wetzel and Williams splitting the remaining two.
Kutz-Menard, however, won the second round.
