Apparently, a little home cooking is all the Ripon High School Tiger girls’ tennis team needed to win.

After dropping its first seven duals of the season, five of which were by a 4-3 margin and all on the road, the Tigers defeated Howards Grove 5-2 Tuesday at home.

A big reason they turned the tide, more than familiar surroundings, was their ability to pick up wins at No. 3 and 4 singles.

The two victories, which were recorded by Emma Mott and Kelly Rudolph, doubled the number of wins (one) they recorded in their first seven duals.

“We’ve swept doubles in our first two conference matches and didn’t win a singles match,” Ripon head coach Breck Speers said. “And so this was great. It was … beautiful weather and the girls were playing well.”

Mott played No. 3 singles and used her consistency to defeat her opponent 6-1, 6-2.

Rudolph, who had the Tigers’ only singles win entering the day, won her No. 4 singles match in a hard-fought fashion 6-2, 6-4.
