For the second time in three years, Elle Lewis and Hadley Neper will represent the Ripon High School Tiger girls’ tennis team at the sectional tournament.

The No. 1 doubles team qualified for the competition with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Howards Grove Monday at the Sheboygan Falls Division 2 Subsectional.

“It was nice,” Ripon head coach Breck Speers said about Lewis and Neper’s win. “The girls beat a good team ... They maintained their composure and played tough.”

The duo, which punched its ticket to sectionals at No. 3 doubles in 2017, squared off with Xavier’s Elise Curtin and Ellie Macksood this morning (Wednesday) at the Kohler Sectional.

It’s figured to be a tough match as the team from Xavier is 27-0 on the season and is the top seed.

“I won’t say insurmountable, but it’s a really tough opponent, probably tougher than Kohler,” Speers said. “But they have the ability to knock someone off.”

The No. 1 doubles team was the only position for Ripon to advance to sectionals, but it was not the only one to win a match at the Sheboygan Falls Subsectional.
