After hanging with several tough teams to begin the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational, the Ripon College Red Hawk baseball team broke through Monday.

It defeated Rutgers-Camden 3-2 in 12 innings for its first win of the season, improving to 1-4 overall.

The victory came following losses to No. 2-ranked Rowan University, No. 25-ranked Wheaton College, an 11-2 Franklin & Marshall squad and Rutgers-Newark.

Playing “hero” for the Red Hawks Monday was Joey Garza.

The senior transfer drove in fellow senior Michael Barnes for the game-winning run in the 12th.
Austin Fox then nailed down the win with a scoreless bottom half of the inning to record a save.

The Red Hawks needed the extra-inning magic after Rutgers-Camden tied the game at two-all in the bottom of the ninth inning.
