The Ripon College baseball team salvaged the final game of its spring break trip to Florida as it defeated McDaniel College 14-4 last week Friday to finish 1-8.
The Red Hawks jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning of the game and cruised to the win.
It followed losses earlier in the week to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville (8-2), Rowan University (7-5 and 5-1), Franklin and Marshall College (6-1, 6-3), Eastern Connecticut State (3-2), The College at Brockport (13-6) and Benedictine University (1-0).
“We put together a more ‘complete’ game,” Ripon head coach Eric Cruise said of the victory over McDaniel, noting it feels good to get a win after battling day in and day out. “We did things well in all aspects of the game.”
Among the areas the Red Hawks excelled at was hitting.
After recording just 20 runs and 55 hits in the first eight games, they erupted for 14 runs and 17 hits in against McDaniel.
Randy Finger led the way in the game as he went 4 for 5 with a home run and four RBIs.
Ripon also received three hits and three RBIs from Robbie Schuettpelz, and two hits and three RBIs from Nick Taranto and Josh Oswald. Riley Erickson and Hector Aguinaga also recorded two hits.
