The Ripon College women’s basketball team continued to be in a giving mood last week Saturday in a 53-44 road loss to Carroll.

Plagued by turnovers to begin this season, it turned the basketball over 25 more times and allowed 19 points to score off of the miscues.

Ripon’s inability to take care of the ball was compounded at times by a difficulty to finish, especially in the second and fourth quarters.

The Red Hawks were out-scored 28-14 in those two quarters.

“We struggled offensively in both quarters,” Ripon head coach Lauren Busalacchi said of the second and fourth. “Missed layups as well as turnovers hurt us. We spent most of those quarters playing transition defense, which is really hard to do.”

When Ripon (0-5 overall) was protecting the ball and making its shots, it fared much better.

It led Carroll (2-2 overall) 15-14 after the first quarter and bounced back from a rough second to trail the Pioneers just 38-35 after three.
