Bailey Revels displaces third base as he slides in for a triple in Ripon’s loss to Waupun.

The Ripon High School baseball team had an opportunity to land the first punch last week Wednesday against rival Waupun.

It loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the first inning and had runners on first and second base with two outs in the second.

But it was unable to come through with the clutch hit.

Instead, the Warriors capitalized as they scored two runs in the bottom half of the second. They then delivered the knockout punch with four runs in the fourth to come away with a 7-0 regional final victory in Waupun.

With the loss, the Tigers’ season ends at the hands of Waupun for the fourth-straight season. They lost in the sectional semifinals last year and the regional finals the two years before that.

“We just couldn’t get the timely hit to get a run across,” Ripon head coach Dan Jonas said. “Waupun was able to do that and that was the difference in the game.”
