Did Tyler Granados set the school record this year for most goals scored in a single season?

It’s a question Steve Nankervis would love to have answered.

The first-year Ripon Tiger head boys’ soccer coach knows Granados’ 18 goals puts him in the conversation for that record.

Unfortunately, solid records have not been kept — or at least passed on between coaches — since the sport was added at Ripon in 2000 and became a full-time varsity sport in 2001.

I became aware of Nankervis’ curiosity regarding whether Granados set the single-season school mark for most goals scored during an interview with him after Ripon’s 3-0 win over Kewaskum to end the regular season.

In that game, Granados scored two goals to give him 18 on the season. Nankervis mentioned it would be nice to give the senior the recognition he deserves, but was not sure exactly what was the previous record for goals.

Being the investigative journalist that I am, I decided to look back at our online archives, which dates back to 2009, to see if I could help Nankervis out.

Starting with 2009, one name instantly jumped off the screen: Kevin Hernandez.
