The Ripon College Red Hawk women’s basketball team could have thrown in the towel after squandering a 10-point lead in the final three minutes of regulation last week Saturday.

It already had the Midwest Conference regular season championship locked up and secured hosting rights for this weekend’s four-team conference tournament.

But the Red Hawks weren’t about to lay down.

They rallied in overtime to defeat Knox, which was in a must-win situation, 60-57 on the road.

With the win, the Hawks enter the tournament as winners of their last seven games and 14 of their last 15.

They will face St. Norbert (10-8 conference, 11-14 overall), which got into the tournament by virtue of Knox’s loss to Ripon. Game time for the semifinal match is Friday at 5 p.m.

“The team has faced quite a bit of adversity so far this season,” Ripon head coach Lauren Busalacchi said of the game against Knox. “We are happy we held on to win after really trying to lose it several different ways. We feel very fortunate to come out of that trip with a win.”
