No excuses.

This is the theme for the Ripon Tiger cross country teams this season after last year didn’t quite go the way they wanted.

“Everybody’s got to run in the same stuff and every team goes through stuff,” Ripon head coach Chris Gatzke said, referring to last year. “We’re not going to accept any excuses. We’re going to do our best.”

He has been impressed with what he has seen from his teams so far when it comes to bonding and being unified, which was an area that plagued them at times last year.

An example of that came before practice even began as members of the girls’ team got together for runs and also went to the Green Lake Area Animal Shelter for an activity.

“The cohesiveness of the team [is strong]; everybody seems to be working together and it seems like a really good group to work together,” Gatzke said on what has impressed him so far during practice. “They’re following direction; they’re asking questions; they’re really making a difference.”
