Niko Heinz and Carter Hahn, along with the rest of the Ripon High School track and field teams, stepped onto the outdoor track for the first time Monday afternoon.

That didn’t stop them from picking up where they left off a season ago at one of the toughest and biggest indoor meets in the state.

Heinz and Hahn finished 1-2 in the small division and second and fourth among all runners in the 60-meter dash at the Ripon College Showcase Meet last week Saturday, which took place inside the fieldhouse of the Willmore Center.

The two runners, who made up half of an 800 relay team that finished second at state last season, also placed in two other events.

Heinz finished third in the small division of the 200 dash and Hahn placed fourth in the 400 dash.

The sophomore and junior were a big reason why the Tiger boys were fifth out of 16 schools in the small division with 44 points.

Freedom won the title with 127 points and were followed by Little Chute (77), Kiel (60) and Waupun (54).
