Eddie Muench has scored in pretty much every way possible during his Ripon basketball career.
The senior has gained a reputation for his ability to drain 3-point shots, developed an inside game and shoots a high-percentage from the free-throw line.
He tried to add one more item to that list last week Thursday, when he joined an exclusive club.
Needing just a point to become the eighth player in program history to score 1,000 points in a Ripon uniform, Muench went up for a dunk in the first half against Campbellsport.
“I got pretty confident and I’m sure coach [Dean] Vander Plas didn’t like it very much, but I got a steal at half court and I saw it was nothing but me and the rim, so I figured I might as well try it and it did not work,” he said.
While Muench couldn’t complete the dunk and ended up scoring his 1,000th point a little bit later from the free-throw line, it didn’t make the feat any less special.
“I kind of thought I would [score it there], because I remember my first points in Ripon were free throws, so I figured my 1,000 might be a free throw, too,” he said.
Muench joined teammate Ben Vander Plas and former teammate Luke Loewe — who transferred to Fond du Lac this past summer — in reaching the milestone. They are the only teammates in school history to achieve the honor.
Among other members of the club are Bryce Bauman (class of 2013), Scott Gillespie (2007), Ryan Werch (2003), Tyler Witkowski (1999) and Mike Bock (1977).
