The senior classes of Ripon and Onalaska have played one another since they were in third grade, each winning their fair share of games.
But Eddie Muench and Melvin Lee weren’t around for those.
The two Ripon transfers combined for 57 points last week Saturday as the Tigers dominated the Hilltoppers — who were ranked No. 8 in Division 2 — 77-51 at home.
Muench finished with 32 points, which was one off his career-high, while Lee added a career-high 25.
“When Eddie’s hot and Melvin is getting to the rim, that’s a pretty good combination,” Ripon head coach Dean Vander Plas said. “And then they decided to leave some of our guys open and our kids knocked those shots down.”
Another area the Ripon coach was impressed with was the energy his team played with from the start.
“I loved the intensity level that we came out with,” Dean Vander Plas said. “We wanted to compete on the defensive end of the floor and we did a great job on the glass.”
The ability to defend helped the Tigers stay in the game early, when scoring was hard to come by.
