For the second time in less than a week, the Ripon College women’s basketball team demolished Lawrence Tuesday night.
This time, however, it took a little longer to pull away.
The Red Hawks, who jumped out to a 14-0 lead last week Wednesday, led just 14-11 early in the second quarter before going on a 35-8 run over the next 19 minutes.
They ended up winning the game — their eighth-straight victory — 64-38 on the road.
The win also marks their 20th straight against the Vikings dating back to the 2006-07 season.
“The team moved the ball well during those runs and got multiple stops in a row on defense by getting steals in gaps and finishing possessions with rebounding,” Ripon head coach Lauren Johnson said of the middle two quarters.
Defense was key in that stretch as the Red Hawks allowed the Vikings to make just two field goals in both the second and third quarters.
For the game, they held Lawrence to 24-percent shooting (10 of 42) from the field and forced the Vikings into 19 turnovers.
Offensively, Ripon dominated inside as it out-scored Lawrence 34-8 in the paint. It also pulled down 15 offensive rebounds, which it turned into 12 points.
