Avary Makarewicz looks to the Ripon dugout after hitting a double.

The Ripon High School softball team hung around with Winneconne during a home doubleheader Tuesday but were unable to come away with any wins as it fell to the Wolves 9-5 and 10-3.

The Tigers trailed Winneconne just 4-2 through 2 1/2 innings of the first game and were tied with the Wolves at one after two complete innings in the second game before allowing a five-run inning.

Both games lasted just five innings due to an agreement between the coaches before the twin bill.

“They did a great job of competing,” Ripon head coach Rachel Minch said of her players. “It was our first and only doubleheader this year, so that was a learning experience for these guys to understand the energy needed: not only physical, but their vocal energy — needing to continue to be heard — and their emotional energy staying positive throughout the games no matter what’s happening. When you have a doubleheader, it takes that much more [effort] and learning to do that can be tiring."
