The Ripon High School boys’ tennis team finally got its season underway Tuesday afternoon against Fox Valley Lutheran (FVL).

   It was worth the wait.

The Tigers, who had their first two duals rescheduled due to players away on the band and choir trip to China last week, defeated the Foxes 7-0 at the Ripon College Tennis Courts.

“It was a really nice win tonight for the Ripon tennis team,” acting Ripon head coach Brent Sanderfoot said after the match. “I thought all the players played extremely well.”

No. 1 doubles duo Iffer Long and Daniel Garcia were among those who impressed their coach.

They bounced back after dropping their first set 4-6 to win the final two and the match 6-0, 6-2.

"This was the first match for the two of them and they really battled,” Sandlefoot said. “As the match progressed, they began to get more comfortable together. They didn’t get down after falling behind in the first set. They stayed focused and just took it one point at a time.”
