The Ripon High School boys' basketball team will try to make it 3 for 3 against Waupun this season, when it faces the defending Division 3 state champions in a sectional semifinal game tonight (Thursday) at 7 p.m. in West Bend.

Despite the previous success against the Warriors, Ripon head coach Dean Vander Plas knows the game won’t be easy.

Waupun eliminated the Tigers last year in the sectional semifinals with a 59-49 win en route to claiming the state title.

“You get to this point when there’s only 16 teams left in the state; you’re going to get a good team and we’re going to get a great one in Waupun — the defending state champ,” he said. “Marcus Domask is as good as there is in our conference and in the state. We’ve got to figure out how to stop him, limit his abilities. And we got to figure out how to take care of the glass and get a couple buckets of our own. We know them, so the scout[ing] will be a little easier.”

The winner will play Martin Luther Saturday at 4 p.m. in Whitefish Bay, Wis., for the right to go to state.
