Andrew Rodriguez wears the two medals he won for finishing fourth in the 400-yard individual medley and seventh in the 200 backstroke.

Ripon Community Swim Club member Andrew Rodriguez finished in the top 20 in all six of his events last weekend during the Central Zone Speedo Championship Series. The competition was hosted by the University of Iowa and the Iowa Flyers Swim Club.

Rodriguez placed fourth in the 400-yard individual medley, seventh in the 200 backstroke, 12th in both the 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley, 17th in the 200 butterfly and 18th in the 100 butterfly. He swam the 400 individual medley in 3 minutes, 58.14 seconds — fulfilling his goal of finishing the event in less than 4 minutes.

The performances come after Rodriguez was sick for about a month and missed two weeks of practice 2/3 of the way through the season.

Rodriguez came back and was able to finish first in all six of his events at the 13 & Over Short Course State Championships March 2 to 5. This gave him his third High Point Award at this meet. He also finished second two times and third once at the meet.

His High Point finish also qualifies him for his third Wisconsin Age Group Swimmer of the Year Award.  The award will be voted on by the coaches later this summer.
