For the first time in six years, the Ripon High School Tiger girls’ cross country team will be represented at the state championships.

Tirion Radtke qualified for the meet last week Friday afternoon with a seventh-place finish at the Mayville Division 2 Sectional.

The sophomore’s time of 21 minutes, 15.83 seconds was third among individuals not qualifying as a member of a team and was nearly 18 seconds faster than the fifth and final individual qualifier.

Katelin Cunningham was the last Tiger to advance, doing so for the third-straight year in 2012.

“Tirion ran a very smart race,” Ripon head coach Chris Gatzke said. “She went out not to try to lead it, but to be close at the beginning. She ran a very solid first mile and continued to move forward.”

He noted Radtke was helped in the race by several of the competitors she was running against.
