The season will continue for a trio of Tigers as the Ripon High School athletes punched their ticket to the state track and field championships this weekend.

Carter Hahn (100-meter dash), Hunter Cook (pole vault) and Alex Rodriguez (shot put) did the honors for the Tigers with top-four finishes last week Thursday at the Wisconsin Lutheran Division 2 Sectional.

While they are the only ones out of 23 Ripon athletes competing at the meet to head to La Crosse, Wis., for state, it wasn’t for a lack of effort from the others.

“They gave it everything they had to try to do their best and qualify,” Ripon head coach Chris Gatzke said of his athletes’ performances. “There’s no doubt that we didn’t hold anything back. We tried to do our best to be able to keep the season going one more week.”

The junior continued what he has been doing all year in the 100 dash as he finished third in the finals with a personal-record time of 11.22 seconds, which was .06 seconds faster than his fourth-place time in preliminaries.

He is headed to the state meet for the second-straight year as he was a member of the 800-meter relay team that finished as the state runners-up last season.
