The Ripon Tiger girls’ basketball team will face a familiar foe Tuesday night, when it opens up WIAA regional tournament play.
It received the No. 12 seed and will travel to No. 5 Mayville in a rematch of a game earlier this season.
The Tigers (3-18 overall) lost the first meeting to the Cardinals (11-10 overall), which took place Dec. 19 in Ripon, 60-42.
“I think one of the things that we can do is we can go back and look at the film and see what they do very well,” Ripon head coach Tom McNeill said. “They pressure in the front court and it’s not just one person on the ball. They’re actually bringing a girl from the backside, especially when you don’t see her coming.”
While there is familiarity with both programs, the teams have changed a lot from when they met earlier this season.
In the first meeting, which Ripon led 29-19 at halftime, the Tigers were without their second-leading scorer in Erin McNeill
as a result of an ankle injury.
Grace Burdick, who backs up Erin McNeill, also missed the game due to a family commitment.
“I think once we go ahead and have those two individuals in there, we’re going to be able to fight ... not only on the boards, but at the same time on the offensive end when it comes to our aggressiveness,” Tom McNeill said.
