Max Huseboe goes up for a shot during Ripon’s loss to Berlin

It was a tale of two halves for the Ripon High School boys’ basketball team last week Saturday.

The Tigers led Madison Edgewood 25-24 after the first half, before getting out-scored 44-21 in the second en route to a 68-46 loss.

The game was part of the SwingFam Showcase in Waunakee, Wis.

“The first half, we did a really nice job on both ends of the court,” Ripon head coach Steve Brooks said. “In the second half, Madison Edgewood continued to run their stuff and I could sense that our legs were tired from the night before and they kind of wore us down.”

One area where Ripon (3-9 overall) did well in the first 18 minutes was playing man defense as it limited the Crusaders to just the 24 points.

It marked just its second game playing entirely that defense after using a zone for the first 10 games.

“It requires them to communicate and switch screens and they did a good job,” Brooks said. “They really handled their stuff well.”
