The Ripon High School Tiger golf team built some momentum entering today’s (Wednesday’s) East Central Conference meet.

The two-man team of Sam Yeomans and Brendan Baird won the North Fondy Invitational Tuesday with an even-par 72, while the Tigers finished second as a team (two, two-man teams) with a 159.

Campbellsport won the competition, which took place at Whispering Springs Golf Course in Fond du Lac and featured a scramble format, by one stroke.

Grace Burdick and Drew Kastenschmidt combined to form Ripon’s other team and shot an 87.

“I think that it was a good warm-up for conference and tournament to play something where you can lean on your teammate a little bit,” Ripon head coach Rick Kelm said. “So I think it was a good mindset to play a scramble at this point. And I think that both groups did very well; hit a lot of good shots, found some things we’ve got to work on a little bit.”

Kelm was particularly impressed with the team of Yeomans and Baird, which he noted won the meet by three strokes and could have even been a few shots better.
