     Last week Thursday, things were getting ugly at Culver’s in Ripon.

     And that was by design.

     With the holidays approaching, the restaurant opted to hold an “ugly Christmas sweater” contest.

     The idea? Wear your ugly Christmas sweater to Culver’s and you’d get a chance to win free custard for a year.

     Seems like a pretty good trade-off to me!

     The idea came from manager Brooke Harmsen.

     She’s the guru for “fun” at the Ripon franchise.

    “She picks out what kinds of features and stuff were are going to do for the day,” general manager Carrie Vande Zande said.

    ... “We just thought it would be something fun to do; something new and exciting we have not done before,” the general manager said. “I know the ugly Christmas sweaters have been a ‘thing’ the past couple of years so we thought we’d give it a try and see how well it worked out.”

     “I think it’s fun because they are so unique,” Brooke said of the distinctive outfits. “You’re never going to find one that’s like that again.” ...
